How to Play Minesweeper

Minesweeper is a classic logic puzzle hidden under a grid of covered squares. Somewhere beneath those squares are a fixed number of mines — reveal every square that isn't hiding one, and you win. Reveal a mine, and the game ends.

Difficulty levels

Easy is a 9x9 board with 10 mines — a light warm-up. Medium steps up to 12x12 with 24 mines. Hard is a 16x16 board packed with 45 mines, needing careful flag-counting to avoid a wrong guess.

What are the rules of Minesweeper?

Click squares to reveal them while avoiding the hidden mines. Each revealed number tells you how many mines are hiding in the eight squares touching it. Flag every square you believe hides a mine and reveal every safe square to win.

How do I flag a mine?

Right-click a square to flag it instantly with a mouse. On any device you can also click a square to open the Open/Flag menu and choose Flag from there.

What does the number on a revealed square mean?

The number shows exactly how many of the up-to-eight neighboring squares contain a mine. A blank revealed square means none of its neighbors are mines.

Is the first click always safe?

Yes. Mines are placed only after your first click, and never on or directly next to that first square, so you never lose on your opening move.

What's the difference between the difficulty levels?

Easy is a 9x9 board with 10 mines, Medium is 12x12 with 24 mines, and Hard is 16x16 with 45 mines — both the board size and mine density increase with each level.
